Flow - Giant Glass Mural
To Be Created by Local Artist Bob Ziller

Patrons sought to Assist in Funding

Designed for the new building under construction at Forbes Ave & Murray Ave in Squirrel Hill.

Building construction scheduled to be completed in April, 2004. Mural scheduled to be installed in March, 2004.

The Flow mural incorporates a new technique of painting in the back of spandrel glass, which will be done by Emerald Art Glass on Pittsburgh's South Side. The mural will feature mirror placed behind the painted glass, acting as insulation, with the mirror being made visible through half-inch unpainted borders between every color of the mural. This will allow the reflection of lights and passing traffic, on foot and in cars, to undulate across the length of the mural (91 feet), creating a continually dynamic, interactive work of art.

Additionally, with the mural's primary color being a deep indigo, it will softly, convincingly reflect the community passing in front of it, day or night, thereby transforming a seemingly abstract work into an ever-evolving creator of figurative portraits. The Flow mural, an abstract rendering of DNA, will literally reflect the flow of humanity at this bustling center of human activity. The building itself will house five international restaurants, a Rite-Aid, spa, and salon.

The setting of the Flow glass mural is the busiest intersection in Pittsburgh - it is estimated that over 30,000 people pass through the intersection every day - well over a million people a year.

Financial participants for the Flow mural (Corporate $5000+, Private business: $1000+, Individuals: $500+) will be listed in a prominently-displayed plaque at the building's entrance. Since the mural is slated to be installed in March, 2004, patrons are asked to respond as soon as possible.
